Description

Photography by Holly Lay.
Three film photographs of the Cook Bank ruin in Rhyolite, Nevada, made during the production of In Relative Obscurity III: Stay Here at Goldwell Open Air Museum’s Red Barn Arts Center in March 2026.
Holly arrived in Rhyolite hours before the rest of the team and walked the ghost town alone with multiple cameras, including film. These three frames came out of that morning, before anything else started. The same building, three states of presence. A crow in flight, a crow at rest, the ruin alone.
Rhyolite has been the backdrop for films and music videos for decades, including Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” in 1995. The Cook Bank ruin shown in this triptych is one of the most photographed structures in the town. Holly’s eye finds a new way to see it.
Each set is three 5 x 7 inch prints, made to order on Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Signed and numbered as a set on the back by Brian Gibson. Edition of 25 sets.
